Malabon City is a coastal city situated in the northern part of Metro Manila and part of the CAMANAVA sub-region. Commercial fishing and fish trading are the backbone of the city’s economy, along with metal and wood working, soap making and food processing.
With its generally flat topography and the presence of three river systems (Navotas, Tullahan and Malabon) in its area, Malabon is prone to flooding during high tide and heavy rains. This problem has been aggravated by the dumping of wastes into the rivers. The topography of the city also makes it susceptible to earthquakes, liquefaction, and storm surges.
ACCORD, through the Partners for Resilience Project, works with the city government to strengthen capacities relating to disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and ecosystem management & restoration. The organization is also involved in building networks and alliances with other important stakeholders such as the DILG, PAG-ASA, the La Mesa Dam Authority, Quezon City and the rest of CAMANAVA.
