Barangay Potrero is the largest in Malabon City by area, covering 302.71 hectares, and is bounded by the Tullahan River to the north. The men are usually wage labourers in nearby factories or construction projects, or are ambulant vendors. The women sell rags that they sew themselves, work as household help, plant vegetables, or have their own sari-sari stores and carinderias.
The community is vulnerable to flooding and fire. Residents from its East Riverside area, composed mostly of informal settlers, reported that they experience floodwaters of up to 6-10 feet deep during prolonged heavy rains. Their houses, mostly made of light materials, were submerged in flood, with many of these washed out.
ACCORD, through the Partners for Resilience Project, conducted activities such as community risk assessment, trainings on community-based disaster risk management (CBDRRM) and disaster preparedness, etc. The barangay was also able to develop their own barangay contingency plan based on the worst case scenarios they identified.
