National Conference for Effective DRR and CCA Practices

The European Union and the Municipality of Saint Bernard, in partnership with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, CARE Nederland, and the German Development Cooperation is holding the National Conference for Effect Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Practices on September 28 and 29, 2012 in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte. This event will showcase good disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) experiences, and serve as forum for sharing lessons that can serve as inspiration for other communities and local government units taking the road of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

This conference is being organized by the municipality of Saint Bernard to draw lessons from these experiences. It is an opportunity for the LGU to share their experiences and listen to recommendations from other high risk areas who are also in the process of building their resilience.

The February 2006 landslide in Bgy. Guinsaugon in Saint Bernard claimed more than a thousand lives and changed the lives of those who survived. It was a devastating experience that became an opportunity for everyone to learn. As help poured from all over Saint Bernard seized this as an opportunity to recover and improve its condition.

The first day will highlight the general DRR and CCA issues at policy and operational levels. Site visits to various sites will be part of the day’s schedule so that participants will have a better understanding of what happened in Saint Bernard on February 2006. The second day will highlight discussions of best practices and lessons of CARE Nederland’s consortium and municipality partners.

You may download the brochure here to find the schedule. For more information, please get in touch with Mayet Lupig Alcid at 09176209428 or Merdi Jean Arcilla at 09178601989 of CARE Nederland who will be coordinating the event.
