Like many vulnerable communities in the country, the upstream villages in Tadian, Mountain Province and river barangays in Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur are struggling to address the threats posed by natural hazards and adverse impacts of changing climate, in the context of degraded ecosystems. Both are agricultural communities exposed to various hazards – drought, landslide, and typhoon in Tadian in the Cordilleras, and long-standing floods and typhoon in Talacogon in Agusan. As these communities rely mostly in farming, the negative economic and environmental impacts of disasters threaten food security, and can result to compounding vulnerabilities that will push communities to more risks to disasters.
